BRIAN HUNT FOR MAYOR OF CHARLESTON, WEST VIRGINIA

I am Brian Hunt and I am working to be the next mayor of Charleston.

Charleston is my home. Always has been. I have lived, worked and raised my family in the Oakridge neighborhood of the city, on property developed over generations of investment and hard work by my family and me. Our city is a special place, and I care enough to work for its betterment.

I am a father, grandfather, businessman, property owner, residential land developer, Marine, and I want to serve the city of Charleston as mayor.

For all the right reasons.

As the capital city of our state, Charleston is important historically, culturally, and for the future. Although not a politician, I believe that it is a worthy endeavor to serve in municipal government, and to assemble a smart team to address the challenges currently affecting our city, working proactively to find common sense solutions that make Charleston the best place to live, work and raise a family for generations to come.

As mayor, I will work to improve:

  • PUBLIC SAFETY

Public safety will be my priority as mayor.
    *Law Enforcement
    *Fire Services
    *Emergency Medical Services
    *Emergency Management
    *Disaster Response
    *Corrections/Justice
I will lead and coordinate with all Public Safety departments, City Council, and the seven-member City Council Public Safety Committee. We will work together to protect communities from crime and disasters, and to care for our citizens.

  • INFRASTRUCTURE / DEVELOPMENT

To work responsibly and quickly investing in improved infrastructure for the city, balancing long and short-term goals. From city streets and sewer lines to park benches and light posts, it all matters. We will invest responsibly in projects that realize a positive return on investment. My professional background lends experience in the areas of building and construction. Charleston would benefit from an experienced individual to lead and complete infrastructure projects that fundamentally improve our City. The importance of properly working infrastructure is imperative to a city’s growth and citizens’ quality of life.

  • CITY SERVICES

An important job as Mayor is to keep our city
    *clean
    *efficient
    *functional

And I will prioritize the implementation of best practices in managing and serving the city and her citizens responsibly. From Public Works to elderly care, your city should work for you. If something adds value, great, if it does not add value, it is out. For example, for builders and contractors, which I am one, we will review the building and development process and eliminate unnecessary red tape and hurdles.

  • ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Along with a strong team, I will prepare and promote Charleston, the Capital City, for opportunity and growth. We will find a solution for the stagnant Town Center Mall and look to replace the user fee plaguing employers and employees in the city. We will always look to identify long-term economic development with sustained job growth in our city. We must increase population, attract business, and increase our tax base so Charleston will grow. I will identify ways to establish businesses and services that support our city and improve quality of life.

  • NEIGHBORHOODS AND RECREATION

Charleston is fortunate to have welcoming neighborhoods, great recreational events. Our neighborhoods will be preserved and improved through active municipal involvement, improved infrastructure, cleanliness and responsive city services. We will work to offer recreation, education, and childcare options, encouraging home ownership and business creation in each of our unique neighborhoods. A strong calendar of established events such as The Charleston Distance Run, and The Charleston Sternwheel Regatta and Holly Jolly Brawley Christmas contribute seasonally to our city and communities. I look forward to keeping tradition alive while attracting new recreational opportunities for our residents and visitors.
